TWO fly-tipping fines, an arrest, a drugs caution and 40 tenancy checks came as a result of a recent borough-wide crackdown.

On Redbridge Council’s latest enforcement sweep, two £400 on-the-spot fines were issued for fly-tipping, to add to the nine given out since powers were first introduced last week.

As part of the council’s action day (October 19) someone was also arrested for failing to attend court and given a caution for having cannabis.

Officers also carried out two drug stop and searches, removed 13 illegal fly posters and four other fly-tips.

The final duty of the day was earmarking 40 homes for checks to see if they are renting rooms out illegally.

Cabinet member for civic pride Cllr Ross Hatfull said the two instant fines handed out on Goodmayes High Road are a “fantastic tool” for dealing with those who “do not treat Redbridge with respect”.

He added: “Action days like these show people we have pride in our borough and that they should too.”
