A man has died following a suspected assault on Leytonstone High Road in the early hours of this morning.
A 52-year-old man was found in the High Road this morning (Friday, October 21), close to the junction with Lancaster Road, reportedly suffering from a serious head injury.
He was taken to an east London hospital, where he underwent an emergency operation, but was pronounced dead at around 9.30am.
Police were later called to the hospital at around 6.15am, after being alerted to the situation by London Ambulance Service medics.
Officers are treating the man's death as suspicious and he is believed at this time to have been the victim of an assualt.
The High Road remains partialy closed between the junctions with Lancaster Road and Trinity Close.
The crime scene is still in place at the scene of the attack while forensics experts conduct investigations.
