Matt Wallace will take a two-shot lead into the final round of the Alps Tour Grand Final after a fine birdie, eagle finish saw him shoot a five-under-par-66 to move to 14-under for the tournament in Italy.

The Moor Park professional was in a tie for second overnight after following up his course record-equalling 63 with a 70 yesterday, but he immediately picked up a shot at the par five first to move to 10-under at Maglianico Golf and Country Club.

The 26-year-old, who won five consecutive events he played in on the European satellite tour earlier this season and signed for Chubby Chandler's International Sports Management group last weekend, played par golf for his next five holes before hitting the accelerator as he approached the turn.

He made back-to-birdies on seven and eight, both par fours, before moving to 13-under with a four at the par five ninth.

The Pinner-based player’s scoreboard remained in very healthy shape through the 13th, only for him to drop two shots with a seven at the par five 14th.

This setback didn’t lead to any further damage though, and after pars on 15 and 16 he recovered those drops shots and more on the final two holes, birdying the par four 17th before ending his third round in superb fashion with an eagle three on 18.

Wallace’s closest challenger in his quest to win a sixth Alps Tour tournament of the season is Italian Federico Maccario, while the French duo of Jean Pierre Verselin and Richard Jouven are a shot further back on 11-under.
