THE DISCHARGE of a gas canister triggered the evacuation of London City Airport.
Police evacuated the airport after a number of passengers and staff began feeling unwell shortly after 4pm on Friday (October 21).
A search of the airport led to the discovery of a CS gas canister or spray.
The airport was evacuated and reopened at around 7pm.
Officers from the Met’s Aviation Policing Command are investigating as the cause of the incident has not been confirmed.
Police are investigating if the canister was accidentally discharged or discarded by a passenger before they checked in.
The Fire Brigade attended and the London Ambulance Service treated a number of people at the scene.
There have been no arrests and enquiries continue.
