A LITTLE girl dressed up as Paddington Bear has delivered a letter to the Home Office to try to find homes for more child refugees.

Miriam Clifton joined Redbridge Council leader Cllr Jas Athwal on his visit to the central London offices yesterday (October 24) to give ministers a letter urging the Government to help councils take more unaccompanied child migrants.

Miriam dressed up like Paddington as he arrived on his own in London from "deepest darkest Peru", much like those children coming from the destroyed 'Jungle' migrant camp in Calais.

Letters were also delivered on behalf of charity Citizens UK by other councils including Islington, Lewisham, and Hammersmith and Fulham.

Cllr Athwal said: “I feel proud I could help in some small way to bring these children who are in desperate need to a safe and welcoming place like London.”

Redbridge Council has pledged to take five refugee children under the Dubs Amendment, which requires the UK to take 3,000 of the 100,000 currently in Europe.

The letter given to ministers by Miriam asks the Government to give council’s better support in housing refugees and ensuring all 1,200 children from the ‘Jungle’ are accounted for.
