A meeting will be held for neighbours to discuss ways they can oppose the expansion of London City Airport, whose planes they say are impacting their lives.

The airport’s flight paths were concentrated in February, meaning more planes fly in a narrower path, causing more noise pollution for homes underneath.

In July the government gave the go-ahead for a £344m expansion for City Airport, which will significantly increase air traffic.

Bob Pascall, who lives in Dyson Road, Leytonstone, said he and his family can no longer sit out in their garden or watch tv in peace.

He said: “To give you an idea of the noise we experience all rooms in our house are affected, even in the corridors with all doors closed you can still hear overhead aircraft.

“I have been told by a surveyor that no glazing, double or triple, will cut out the noise to an acceptable level, only double window units with a space of 200mm will have any effect.

“Of course in the summer the problem is at its worse, with our double French doors open when watching the television or listening to the radio, the sound from above drowns out reception completely.

“We have enjoyed our garden for the 15 years we have been here but now find it no pleasure to sit outside.”

The meeting is organised by Waltham Forest and Redbridge Green Party.

A spokesman for the group said: “In February 2016 City Airport changed their flight paths – creating noise ghettos and decreasing quality of life in our communities.

“The expansion of City Airport and any other London airport will worsen pollution.”

The event will be held at the Heathcote Arms pub in Grove Green Road, Leytonstone, at 7.30pm on Wednesday, 26 October.
