If you thought writing on the walls at school is likely to land you in detention- think again.

Pupils at Buxton School in Leytonstone got the chance to wave goodbye to their old building last week by scribing farewell messages on its walls.

The school is set to move into a new, £2 million, state-of-the-art centre after the half term break.

The new site, which will also welcome secondary school pupils by 2018, will feature sports facilities, new science labs and fully-equipped IT rooms.

Executive Head teacher, Kath Wheeler said: "This has been another successful term for Buxton students in many different ways.

“But, collectively, we can all celebrate one particular development at this time; our new building will be ready for primary pupils after half term.

"Exactly one year from now the whole new building will be complete and by Spring 2018 the outside spaces will all be finished.

"We are so lucky to be able to accomplish this without moving off of the site, with everyone moving directly from their current rooms to their new ones once they are complete.”

The primary school was opened Cann Hall Road Board School in 1882. Cann Hall Primary and Tom Hood School joined in 2010 to become Buxton.
