Homophobic leaflets containing lyrics to a song about John Terry were handed out at West Ham's game with Chelsea.

The pamphlet, distributed before the sides' EFL Cup tie at London Stadium in Stratford last night (Wednesday, October 26), urged Hammers fans to "make some f***in noise".

It also encouraged supporters to engage in a homophobic chant, targeting Chelsea captain Terry and Spanish striker Diego Costa.

Fans who objected to the content of the leaflet later shared images on social media.

Police confirmed the origin of the document, signed "Herts Hammers 2016", was being investigated as part of their probe into disorder at the game.

A Met spokesman said: “Police are aware of a leaflet handed out before the match containing homophobic comments.

“This will form part of the post-match investigations.”

West Ham's 2-1 win was marred by ugly scenes inside the ground, as home fans clashed with supporters in the away section.

Seven men were arrested in connection with the violence and a further 30 people were dispersed under anti social behaviour legislation before the match.

The Hammers' start to life in their new 60,000-seat stadium has at times been overshadowed by crowd trouble.

The club warned they would hand lifetime bans to any supporters found to be involved in brawls during a Premier League match against Watford on September 10.

Fans fought among themselves, with stewards and away supporters in the closing stages of the game as West Ham slumped to a 4-2 loss.

Police have also arrested 17-year-old boy and are looking to trace more suspects in connection with violence after a game with Middlesbrough on October 1.
