A RESCUE operation is underway after a boat sank in a canal.
The dredger was found submerged in the River Lee, at the Herts and Essex border, on Monday.
It had been moored opposite the Lee Valley White Water Centre, in Station Road, Waltham Cross, on Friday and was due to be taken further north this week.
Mystery surrounds how the 16metre boat ended up underwater, which is 2.5m deep.
A spokesperson for the Canal Trust said: βItβs very rare for something like this to happen. The job is now to get it up and out. We are looking at the best ways of securing it.β
Anyone with information about how the boat sunk should call the Canal Trust.
