IT is a crime that is happening on our roads every day – but it seems nothing can deter some drivers from using their mobile phones while driving.

A Guardian Series photographer took these shocking photos of reckless drivers between Waterworks, Enfield, and Charlie Browns Roundabout on the North Circular, South Woodford.

The dangerous and careless drivers were caught on Friday and Monday in just a 30 minute period.

Although the speed limit there is 50mph, the drivers were too engrossed in their conversations to notice the traffic around them, let alone the fact that they were being photographed.

The offenders include eight drivers talking into their handsets, two texting and two looking at their devices while driving or stopped in traffic.

Last week, Tomasz Kroker was jailed for killing Tracy Houghton, her sons, Ethan, 13 and Joshua, 11, and stepdaughter Aimee Goldsmith, because he used his mobile phone while driving.

Dramatic footage of Kroker's accident, which took place on the A34 near Newbury, was released to the media on Monday as police nationwide warned drivers of the horrific consequences of using a mobile phone while driving.

The government plans to double penalties for mobile phone use at the wheel to six points and a £200 on-the-spot fine.

So today, we make no apology in publishing a gallery of shame.
