Youngsters from Walthamstow were served up a treat when a Paralympic medallist gave them a tennis masterclass.

Pupils from South Grove Primary School met two-time Paralympian Andy Lapthorne on Friday (November 11) at the Lee Valley Hockey and Tennis Centre in Stratford.

Mr Lapthorne handed out tennis tips to 90 primary school children as part of the Disability Tennis Festival at the Olympic Park.

The 26-year-old spoke to youngsters about his success at this summers’ games in Rio, showing off the bronze and silver medals he brought home.

He said: “This has been a great experience, being able to connect with young people, all keen to learn about my own experiences in the sport and willing to have a go at playing tennis to the best of their ability.

“It is great that they have this opportunity to try out this wonderful sport.”

Mr Lapthorne won a silver medal in the wheelchair tennis Quad Singles and a bronze medal in the Quad Doubles events at Rio 2016. He also won a silver medal in the Quad Doubles at London 2012.

The Paralympian is set to compete in the prestigious NEC Wheelchair Tennis Masters tournament, which takes place later this month at Lee Valley Hockey and Tennis Centre.
