An exhibition highlighting the positive contribution Muslims have made to society was held in a church.

Waltham Forest Mend society held the exhibition at St Barnabas Church in St Barnabas Road, Walthamstow, to mark Islamophobia Awareness Month.

Chairman of the society Suleman Ahmed said it is significant for the Islamic community to be welcomed into a church to raise awareness about their challenges.

He said: “We were very kindly invited to showcase our exhibition at St Barnabas Church by Steven Saxby.

“Our exhibition outlines the positive contribution Muslims make to British society, such as sports personalities like Mo Farah and politicians like Sadiq Khan.

“The aim of it is to raise awareness of the Muslim community and address issues such as negative press reports.

“The feedback was really good. A lot of people said they have Muslim neighbours and colleagues and they hope to learn more about their community.

“It is very significant for the exhibition to be held in a church and we are reaching out to other faith communities such as the churches, synagogues and temples.”

Over 100 people turned up to the exhibition hosted by Canon Steven Saxby, vicar at St Barnabas Church on Sunday, November 10.
