A SEVERELY-DISABLED woman is crowdfunding for a wheelchair that could mean watching her son get married and walking her dogs again.

Leanne Thompson, of Maybank Road, South Woodford, has been in constant pain since she was diagnosed with a rare connective tissue disorder seven years ago.

Her Ehlers Danlos Syndrome (EDS) means she is unable to walk, eat or drink, and is bedbound for most of the day.

The 45-year-old said: “My wheelchair isn’t safe for me anymore.

“Ever since my diagnosis my muscles have just been wasting away.

“So I can sit in it for about an hour before the pain becomes really unbearable.

“My body just aches for days afterwards – plus it’s falling to bits.”

Leanne and her family are trying to raise £25,000 for a new multi-functional wheelchair that would “change her life completely”.

The new motorised chair would reduce pain, react instantly when she has a seizure, and make her regular hospital trips more manageable.

But after raising £7,886 towards the chair, the mother-of-one is urging people to consider helping her make up the rest.

She said: “Being stuck indoors in bed or a wheelchair every day is really hard, and difficult for most people to imagine.

“But this chair would change everything.

“My son Lewis got engaged in August and the new chair would mean I could properly enjoy his wedding.

“And I would love to be able to help with the preparations too.”

She added: “We also have two dogs, which if I had a new chair, I could help walk again.

“I love shopping as well, but at the moment one shop is usually all I can manage before it becomes too painful and I have to go home.

“This wheelchair would mean I could spend proper quality time with my family and friends while I still can.

“Any donation, however big or small, would be so gratefully received.”
