Students from three Waltham Forest schools got together to discuss some of the biggest issues facing the world today.

George Monoux Sixth Form College in Walthamstow hosted a “Campaign for Social Science” event on Thursday (November 24).

Youngsters at the college were joined by social scientists and pupils from George Mitchell School and Leytonstone School to discuss issues such as racism, identity, refugees and Brexit.

Alessandro Lanuto, from the Campaign for Social Science gave a talk on the role played by social scientists.

Dr Suki Ali, Associate Professor in the Department of Sociology at the London School of Economics and Political Science, then explored subjects such as racism, British and ethnic identity with the students.

Course leader for sociology at George Monoux, Marion Permaul, said “This is a unique opportunity for high flying Year 10 to 13 students to work alongside leading academics and specialists in the field of social science."
