A POLICEWOMAN has been struck off for assaulting staff at a pub while claiming to be on sick leave.

Melanie Davies was relieved of her duties on Tuesday (November 29) for attacking staff at the Bat and Ball pub, in Westfield Stratford City.

On Wednesday, August 31, Thames Magistrates’ Court heard that while on sick leave, PC Davies was refused service in the pub as staff felt the officer was drunk.

As she being escorted from the building she assaulted a staff member before exiting.

PC Davies was found guilty of assault and fined £430.

The Met found PC Davies, who is attached to Wandsworth borough, had failed to meet the required standards of professional behaviour.

Assistant commissioner, Helen King said: "Police officers are granted powers over their fellow citizens to enforce the law on others and, where necessary, to use force in order to do so.

"An offence of assault, however minor, is one that has to be seen as serious given the nature and responsibilities of a police officer's role.

“Therefore the only appropriate action for PC Davies in this case is dismissal."
