COMMUTERS were seen strolling through police metal detectors, beeping as they went, while making their journeys home.
The extra safety measures at Walthamstow Central station during the evening rush hour on Tuesday (November 29) is part of Counter Terrorism Awareness Week, which runs until December 4.
Police officers at the scene admitted they could not stop every person beeping through the detectors as it would cause a chaotic back-up down the Underground stairs.
Many people filed through the two detectors, beeping along the way, but were not stopped by the police.
Officers said they were looking for people’s reactions as they walked past, and would stop anyone acting suspiciously.
Another officer said it was purely to get more knives off the street.
