A STREET that has suffered without Christmas lights for years is finally getting some this festive season.

Redbridge Council usually only installs Christmas lights on Snakes Lane West in Woodford Green, while Snakes Lane East on the other side of the Central Line has to go without.

But after negotiations with council leader Jas Athwal, Snakes Lane West will be lit up for Christmas from Monday (December 5).

MP for Ilford North took Cllr Athwal on a “Woodford walkabout”, arguing it was not fair that people in Iain Duncan Smith’s Chingford and Woodford Green constituency got lights, while his constituents did not.

He said: “I’m really pleased Redbridge Council has agreed to install Christmas lights on both sides of the track in Woodford Green.

“Many residents have felt the Snakes Lane East side of Woodford Station gets less attention, so I’m delighted the council has stepped up and added lights for some Christmas cheer.”

Blue and white spirals will cover lampposts in Snakes Lane East from Woodford Station to St Barnabas Church.
