Allegations have been made Leyton Orient youth players were sexually abused by a scout at the club.

Claims surround Eddie Heath, who worked recruiting youngsters for Orient during the 1950s and 1960s, before later moving to Chelsea.

Former Blues striker Gary Johnson alleged today (Friday December 2) he was sexually assaulted by Heath at the west London club in the 1970s.

Jimmy Scott, an O's captain when Heath worked at Brisbane Road, has now made claims the scout was a known child abuser during his time at the club.

He has alleged the scout invited youth players to watch pornographic films at his flat close to the ground before “trying his luck” with them.

Heath died before claims about his conduct first emerged.

An Orient spokesman said: “Due to ongoing police investigations by a number of police forces into allegations of non-recent child abuse at professional football clubs it would not be appropriate to provide information on the matter at this time.”

Several cases of historic child abuse at London clubs have been reported to the Met during the developing scandal relating to coaches sexually assaulting youth players at teams nationwide.

A spokesman for the Met said: “The Metropolitan Police Service has received information relating to non-recent sexual abuse in football clubs in London.

“The Met will assess any information it receives and ensure that victims are given the advice and support they need.”
