A driver who tried to ignore a speeding fine has been ordered to pay more than £800.

Diane Hart’s car was spotted speeding on the M25 near Epping just after 3.40pm on April 2, 2015, travelling at 69mph in a 50mph zone.

Hart, from Altrincham in Cheshire, failed to tell police who was driving the Vauxhall Tigra when asked.

When notices of intended prosecution were sent to her home, the 56-year-old failed to respond.

Hart was reported to Chelmsford Magistrates’ Court for failing to identify the driver when required to do so.

She pleaded not guilty to the offence but was found guilty following a trial, receiving six penalty points on her licence and being ordered to pay a £300 fine, £500 costs and a victim surcharge of £30.

Adam Pipe, casualty reduction manager at Essex Police, said: “This is another case of a driver ignoring a speeding notice in the hope it will get forgotten about.

“Please don’t ignore notices like this if they come through your letterbox.

“They won’t go away.

“The courts take this kind of offence seriously and ignoring the notice is likely to result in a hefty fine, high court costs and a number of penalty points on your licence.”
