NEIGHBOURS in Francis Road, Leyton, say plans to build six homes with only three parking spaces will worsen their “already extremely congested” neighbourhood.

The plans for five three-bedroom houses and one flat were given the go-ahead at a meeting of Waltham Forest Council Planning Committee on Tuesday, December 6.

People who will live in the new homes at 139 Francis Road, Leyton will not be eligible for residential parking permits.

Liz Rumbold, of Albert Road, Leyton, said: “It is already extremely congested around here and it is a nightmare.

“The new homes will make things worse.

“It is a very small area they are going to build the homes on and it is ridiculous.

“I feel very angry because it was all done very quickly and as a neighbour I feel almost powerless but we still have to protest and make our voices heard.”

A petition fighting the plans gained 48 signatures from people living in the area.

The site, which contains a former print works, was partly destroyed by a fire in August.

One neighbour, who did not wish to be named, said: “Most households have two cars and they are putting in three parking spaces and lots of storage for bikes.

“But people can keep their bikes in their homes and more parking spaces should be put in instead.”
