A WOMAN with learning difficulties was conned out of more than £5k by two rogue traders in a "callous" attack.

The men called to the victim’s home in Howard Road, Walthamstow, on Thursday, August 11.

They told the 48-year-old her roof needed urgent repairs and because lives in a council property she is not responsible for paying maintenance costs.

For the following two months the men phoned her every day asking for money and called to her home twice.

She gave them £5,300 cash but repairs were not carried out.

The bank called police on Thursday, October 20, after they became concerned the woman was a victim of fraud due to her cash withdrawals.

The two men are described as white, between 30 and 50 years, both of medium build with short brown hair.

One was wearing a red, black or grey cap.

They were driving a white van with no wording on the side.

Investigation officer DC Matt Hogg from Waltham Forest Criminal Investigation Department said: "This was a callous attack on a vulnerable member of the community who was deliberately and systematically targeted by two grown men who knew exactly what they were doing.

“We need the public's help to catch them before they target other vulnerable members of society."

Anyone with information should call the Waltham Forest Community Safety Unit on 101 or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
