If you live in Redbridge and are feeling a bit tired – it is probably because you are living in the 11th most lazy London borough.

After City of London Corporation (CoCL) statistics exposed Redbridge as one of the most inactive places in London, it is being given an £85,900 grant to help get its population moving.

The Corporation has awarded UK charity Living Streets the money to help elderly people in Redbridge and Enfield walking, in the hope of promoting better health and social integration.

The two-year project will see initiatives across the boroughs to make sure their streets are fit enough for elderly and other less mobile people to use.

Living Streets’ regional director for London Julia Crear said: “Redbridge is the 11th most inactive borough in London, and faces a need to create opportunities for its ageing population to connect with their community.

“Walking is an easy and accessible way for people to fit more activity into their day, improving their mental and physical health and allowing them to engage with their local community.

“However, the environment in London often prevents older people from being active.

“This funding will allow us to place older people at the heart of the project with the aim of improving levels of physical activity through walking, encouraging them to take an active role in their community and improving streets for walking.”
