A MUSLIM woman was grabbed from behind, knocked to the floor and dragged along the pavement by her hijab in front of busy high street.

The woman, aged in her 20s, had just finished a driving lesson and was on her way to a hair salon when two men approached her from behind in Hall Lane, Chingford, at around at 8pm on Wednesday (December 14).

She was pulled to the ground and dragged for several metres by her hijab in an attack she described as ‘Islamophobic’.

She was reportedly left lying on the pavement for 20 minutes before being helped to Fes Restaurant, in Old Church Road, by two white men, aged between 17 and 19.

The men were wearing all black clothing and ran off in the north direction of Old Church Road.

Hassan Bukhari was enjoying his dinner in the restaurant when the woman was brought inside.

Mr Bukhari dialled 999 immediately at 8.30pm, with paramedics soon turning up to treat her.

At 9pm he called the police again, with them eventually turning up to record the incident at 9.30pm.

He said: “She was extremely jittery and suffering from anxiety when she came in.

“This is close to my heart because she is a Muslim and so am I.

“My mum and sister wear the same headscarf, I can’t imagine if this happened to them.

“She said ‘they took nothing from me’ and she was adamant it was an Islamophobic attack with them acting as so they thought they could just get away with it.

“She said she “thought this area was safe.’”

The Metropolitan police said officers were investigating the incident.
