A MAN who jumped out of a bush and ripped off a jogger’s shorts and tried to rape her has been found guilty.

Peter Fabiyi, 33, of no fixed abode was found guilty of attempted rape and attempted sexual assault of the women in Hackney Marshes near Leyton.

Fabiyi also pleaded guilty to grievous bodily harm with intent during the week-long trial at Wood Green Crown Court on Friday, January 13.

The court heard how at around 10am on July 1 2015 Fabiyi approached his first victim, a 33-year-old woman, while she was jogging.

After jumping out of a bush with his arms outstretched he ran after the woman.

Fearing for her life, the woman escaped and reported the incident to the police.

Just minutes later Fabiyi pursued a 23-year-old woman who was also jogging in Hackney Marshes.

He repeatedly punched her in the back of the head and face with such force it fractured her cheek bone and jaw.

Although she tried to fend off six-foot-two Fabiyi, he proved too strong and managed to knock her to the ground and rip off her shorts in an attempt to rape her.

He fled, leaving his victim lying on the ground covered in blood.

Police forensically linked Fabiyi to the crime scene and he was arrested on November 10 2015 and charged.

Detective Chief Inspector Dave Whellems said: "This was a violent and cowardly attack at the hands of dangerous sexual predator which has left two women petrified and scarred.

"Fabiyi's actions were despicable so I have to praise the victim's courage for giving evidence which has led to his conviction - I hope he is handed a sentence which will see an extremely dangerous man in prison for a lengthy term."

He will be sentenced at the Wood Green Crown Court on Friday February 10.
