A 16-YEAR-OLD girl is in a serious condition after being hit by a car that mounted the pavement she was walking along.

The incident happened on Ripple Road near the junction with Blake Avenue in Barking at 5.15pm on Friday, January 13.

She suffered a fractured skull, a fractured collar bone and cuts to the head, legs and arms.

She remains in hospital in a serious but stable condition.

After the silver Mercedes C-class knocked her down the driver failed to stop and drove away in the direction of Barking town centre.

Police say the car is likely to have front-end damage as pieces of plastic car trim and parts of a number plate were found at the scene.

The damage is likely to be lower front-end but the bonnet and front wings may also be damaged.
