A woman has died in hospital after a hit-and-run crash in Leyton earlier this week.

The 42-year-old woman died yesterday morning (Thursday, January 19), following an incident on the junction of Lea Bridge Road and Orient Way at 5.45am on Sunday.

Two women has been cross Lea Bridge Road when a red Range Rover Evoque struck them on the eastbound carriageway.

The woman, and the 29-year-old also injured in the incident, were taken to hospital.

Police have now confirmed the woman has died. Next of kin have been informed and a post mortem is yet to take place.

The car did not stop at the scene but was subsequently traced to an address in Walthamstow.

Two people, a 28-year-old man and a 29-year-old woman, were arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm and failing to stop at the scene of an accident.

They have both been bailed to dates in late March.

Officers from the Met’s Serious Collision Investigation Unit at Chadwell Heath are appealing for anyone who witnessed the incident, or the events leading up to or after the collision.
