Taking over from Labour Cllr for Clayhall Gurdial Bhamra, the Monkhams Cllr from Woodford Green will assume her new role in May.
Speaking at the meeting she said: “I would like to thank all councillors in this chamber for their support in my election as Mayor of Redbridge.
“I will do my best to serve all of you and the residents of this borough.”
Cllr Huggett was elected as a councillor in May 1998 and served as deputy leader from 2006 to 2009.
She was deputy Mayor from 2014 to 2015.
