WOMEN took to the streets of the capital in their thousands to protest the presidency of Donald Trump last weekend.

Members of the Waltham Forest and Redbridge Green Party were among those who took part in the Women’s March in London's Trafalgar Square on Saturday (January 21).

Although organisers put the number of attendees at 100,000 this figure has not been independently verified.

Rosemary Warrington, who stood as a Green Party candidate for Ilford South in 2015, said: “I relished the energy and comradeship of the women’s march – the huge number of home-made placards with so many heartfelt and witty messages.

“I hope this weekend is just the start of a new sisterhood who are working together for change.

“This was about much more than Trump.”

The march, which was one of hundreds across the globe, took place a day after Trump was sworn in as the 45th president of the United States

Protesters voiced concern about a wide range of issues such as the President’s dismissal of climate change and his remarks about women.

Waltham Forest & Redbridge Green Party member Diana Korchien said: “I believe that Trump's electoral success was due to voters looking to blame serious economic and environmental problems such as climate change on minorities, disenfranchised groups, and foreign nations, but there is no easy way out of our current global dysfunctionality.”

MP for Walthamstow Stella Creasy was also among the crowds of protesters.
