A GROUP of campaigners held a ‘Divestival’ to celebrate the council becoming the UK’s first to divest from fossil fuels.
Waltham Forest Friends of the Earth celebrated their year of success on Saturday (January 28) at Walthamstow Town Hall.
Waltham Forest Council’s pension fund has at least £23.9million invested with stocks and shares with fossil fuel producing companies.
After being lobbied by the environment group the council agreed last September to remove all the stocks and shares over the next five years.
