WORDSMITHS of tomorrow took part in a “terrific” poetry session with elderly people.
Year 5 pupils from Snaresbrook Primary School were invited to take part in the workshop at the Allan Burgess Activity Centre, in High Street, Wanstead.
The nine and 10-year-olds have chosen to support Age UK Redbridge, Barking and Havering throughout 2017 so wanted to see first-hand how their money will be spent.
Alexandra Wilde, who runs the sessions for the charity three times a year, said: “It was lovely, they children were wonderfully well-behaved.
“The adults and children were listed in eachother and I came home really glowing about it – it was so lovely to meet tomorrow’s poets.”
People were asked to write a poem on ‘fashion’ and the children enjoyed hearing about the way style has changed through the ages, including learning about ‘winkle pickers’.
Grandmother Mrs Wilde, 71, added: “You’d be amazed at the way their imagination works, and the different slants they put on fashion. It was terrific.”
