Volunteers from Epping in Bloom have come together to help transform a garden at a care home into a party hotspot.

A team from the community group broke ground on a project last week to spruce up green space at Cunningham House, North Weald.

Once the garden has been restored, it is hoped the area will be used to host family get-togethers and open days, as well as offering residents the chance to do a spot of gardening.

This week, some 3,500 litres of soil and two tons of sand were delivered to the home in Pike Way and eight raised beds were planted.

The community group will hold finish work later this month and volunteers are welcome to come and help complete the project.

Victoria Robertson, chairman of Epping in Bloom, said: “The plan is to get residents out into the garden more this year and to get them involved with watering duties, planting and deadheading."

"We will begin restoring, painting and planting on February 24, so if anyone is able to help they will be most welcome."

Anyone wishing to help with the work at Cunningham House can take part from 10am on Friday, February 24. Epping in Bloom is also looking for donations of grass and herbs.
