A MAN has died after being hit by a lorry.
The incident happened shortly after 12.30pm on Lea Bridge Road near the junction with Manor Road in Leyton.
Paramedics attended and the man was taken to hospital. He was pronounced dead just before 2pm.
Muneeba Munawar, a pharmacist at a chemist nearby said a man ran into the store asking to call the emergency services.
She said: “When someone ran in here asking us to call the ambulance I panicked.
“My colleague ran out to help the injured man and got a blanket out of his car to put over him.
“The man looked elderly and had bags of shopping with him."
Ahmet Kasim, owner of K&H Timber in Lea Bridge Road said: “The man was on his own crossing the road.
“The police looked at our CCTV because the accident happened at the traffic lights outside.
“We didn’t see him being taken away as they had put a blue sheet up around the area.”
Police cordoned off the scene and part of Lea Bridge Road was closed causing severe congestion.
