A “QUIET” neighbourhood is in “shock” after a driver smashed into several parked cars before fleeing the scene on foot.

At about 10am today, a silver BMW badly scraped two cars and a motorbike along Norman Road, in Leytonstone, before smashing into a van and nearly flipping a Fiat Punto into the owner’s house.

Escaping through a small opening in the wreckage, the driver made off on foot and is now being pursued by police.

Despite the carnage, police reported no injuries in an incident which has shocked a neighbourhood in a “quiet” cul-de-sac.

Neighbours observed the wreckage in disbelief, taking photos and calling friends while officers took details from stunned car owners.

Owner of the Fiat Punto, Selmo Pedro, who lives with his family in the damaged house behind, said he was not at home when it happened.

He added: “I am just confused, he must have been going about 60 miles per hour.

“I am in shock, how could this happen?"

Mr Pedro admitted his totalled Punto was not insured and he fears his family will also have to pay for the extensive wall repairs.

He added: “We will have to fork out a lot for this.”

Amazed neighbour David Vise never expected to see such a crash.

He added: “I saw the fire engine and thought it might be a cat up a tree. It was the last thing I expected to see.

“I normally park about there as well, this is a quiet cul-de-sac.

“On a quiet Friday morning this is the last thing you expect to see.

“There is speed bumps on this road as well, how could he have been going so fast?”
