A WOODFORD GREEN kebab house could soon be crowned one of the best in the country.

Mezze Ocakbasi in Johnstone Road is up for the best kebab house outside London category at this year’s British Kebab Awards.

Owner Nick Ari was not planning on taking part in the battle of the prima doners this year after already bagging a customer service award in 2015.

But after his customers and MP Iain Duncan Smith nominated him, the 44-year-old could soon have another of the prestigious accolades to put on his mantel piece.

Mr Ari, from Enfield, who first opened his doors four years ago, said: “My dad had a restaurant back in Turkey, so I’ve always been in the business.

“I lived in Woodford Green for six years, so I knew it’d be the perfect place to get the customers in.

“It’s nice to know they think so highly of us.”

When asked what his favourite dish was he added: “It’s got to be the lamb shish.”

MP for Chingford and Woodford Green Mr Duncan Smith said: “It's excellent to know that a local business has been recognised in this way and may gain further recognition still.

"They have my full congratulations. I was really impressed with the new layout of the restaurant and by the quality of their food”

The Mezze Ocakbasi team will find out if they have won the award at the fifth annual British Kebab Awards ceremony in central London on February 26.
