A MARRIED couple woke up to find thugs standing over their bed and threatening them with a knife.

The two men broke into a house in South Park Drive, Ilford, before 3am on Monday morning.

One put his foot on the woman's chest, preventing her from getting up, while the other man stood over her husband and pointed a knife at his throat.

The first man took out a pair of pliers and cut the woman's necklace off, then indicated for her to hand over her earrings and ring, which did.

But they were disturbed by other residents, who came to investigate the noise coming from their downstairs bedroom.

The yobs fled the scene and the couple's 20-year-old grandaughter phoned the police at 2.57am.

The first man is described as white, between 25 and 30-years-old, while the second is a black man, between 25 and 30-years-old.

Both were wearing dark clothing and had most of their face covered.

No arrests have been made and enquires continue.

Detective Constable Sophie Mostyn, from Redbridge CID, said: "This was a terrifying ordeal for the victims and it has left them extremely distressed."
