A MUSLIM community will hold a ‘Walk for Peace’ to promote harmony among different faiths.

The Ahmaddiya community at Bait ul Ahad mosque in Erskine Road, Walthamstow, aims to raise cash for charity while reaching out to churches.

The five kilometre walk is in its 28th year and this year is the first time it will be held in Waltham Forest.

Vice chairman of the Walk for Peace charity Mubashir Siddiqi said: “We want people to know our mosque is open to all in the community, our doors are never closed.

“The main aim is to create harmony between faiths because there is a lot of negative news and propaganda about Muslims in the media.”

Last year over £500,000 raised at the walk was distributed to 60 charities in the UK.

This year’s event on Sunday, March 26 will start at Frederick Bremer School in Siddeley Road, Walthamstow.

Registration is at 9am and the walk starts at 11am. Cash raised will go towards the Mayor of Waltham Forest Charity Appeal.

Bait ul Ahad which has 600 members was established in 1982.

The Ahmaddiya Muslim Community established itself in the UK in 1912 is the longest standing Islamic group in the country.
