I have heard talk locally that there are plans afoot to set up a museum in the area in memory of Alfred Hitchcock.

I do hope that there are no public funds involved in these plans as I am sure that there are many who would agree with me that he was a most overrated film director.

After all, what are his greatest achievements?

The Birds? A lot of moth-eaten stuffed seagulls propped on a fence with an unlikely soundtrack. I think not.

Dial M For Murder? How stupid can you be? A lot of convoluted tosh involving silly phone calls and dodging about.

Psycho? Who would be daft enough to jump in the shower in a creepy old house when one look at Anthony Perkins would give you shuddering horrors?

Vertigo? That dolly zoom never gave me vertigo but the film gave me ennui.

North by Northwest? Scrambling about up a mountain is no substitute for plot. Come down off there and do something else.

Marnie? Where do I start? Tippi Hedren carrying on alarming when she sees the colour red. Sean Connery blackmailing her into marrying him when any fool could see she was as mad as a bag of badgers. Nonsense.

Why not create a museum dedicated to a genuinely worthwhile figure such as local inventor and engineer Frederick Bremer? I am sure more people would be interested in him.
