PEOPLE are being invited to celebrate the achievements of women as part of Women’s History Month.

Throughout March, Redbridge Central Library, in Clements Road, Ilford, will hold an exhibition on the stories of the 19th century east London women who campaigned for women’s rights.

It has been organised by Eastside Community Heritage, the display will be open from 9.30am to 8pm on Monday to Friday and 10am to 5pm on Saturday.

A second free exhibition entitled ‘What Redbridge Wore’, will showcase changes in women’s fashion over the past 400 years, and will be open Tuesday to Friday 10am to 5pm, and 10am-4pm on Saturdays until June.

On Wednesday March 8, International Women’s Day, speakers will explore what it means to be ‘bold for change’ as Black African women living or working in Redbridge from 6pm to 9pm. The event is free.

Gill Hutchinson, chairman of the volunteer council of the Red Cross, will give a talk about women’s role in the First World War on Thursday March 9. The event is £2 and runs between 2pm and 3pm.

Exiled Iraqi-Kurdish poet, Shie Raouf, who fled to London aged nine due to political unrest in Kurdistan, will perform her poetry on Saturday, March 11.

Shina Saeed, part of the online forum of Muslim women, Sisterhood magazine, will also exhibit her artwork.

A free talk on east London women of protest will run throughout March from 6.30pm to 8pm, starting on Thursday, March 16.

On Saturday March 18 free painting workshops entitled ‘On being a woman’, are being held from 1.30pm to 7.30pm led by influential Asian artists.

A two-and-a-half hour printmaking workshop with run by female artist, Jodie Sadler, will take place on Saturday 25 March 11am-1:30pm. The event is £7 for adults and £5 for concessions, and places must be booked by ringing 02087082409.
