RESIDENTS have escaped injury after a fire ripped through a block of flats.

Five people were evacuated from the flats after a blaze broke out in Church Walk, Stoke Newington.

Six fire engines and 35 firefighters attended the fire on Thursday (March 2) at 1.30pm. 

They had the fire under control two hours later at 3.45pm.

Part of a flat on the third floor of the block and part of the roof was damaged by the blaze.

There are no reports of any injuries.

The Brigade’s 999 control officers received more than 20 calls about the fire.

Fire crews from Stoke Newington, Tottenham, Holloway and Homerton fire stations all attended the scene.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
