A DRIVER miraculously escaped uninjured when his lorry overturned.

The lorry flipped over on the eastbound slip road of the A406 North Circular at Waterworks Corner in South Woodford just after 1pm on Tuesday (March 7).

The road was quickly closed for emergency services to deal with the lorry and try to access the driver.

A Metropolitan Police spokesman said officers found him uninjured and he remained on scene until the lorry was turned upright at around 5.30pm.

No arrests were made or other vehicles involved.

A witness, who had driven down the slip road just seconds after the HGV flipped, said: “When I got there, there were two people stood near the barrier.

“I got out and climbed over it to try to see the driver but couldn’t see him.

“It was terrifying. I called 999 and then other people got out of their cars to try to help him.

“As the emergency services got there they assisted the driver out.”

The road finally reopened at 7am today, but drivers suffered tailbacks up the A104 Woodford New Road to Chingford Lane.
