A Life of Crime?

Polish writers Olga Tokarczuk and Zygmunt Miloszewski discuss the permeable boundaries of genre fiction. Miloszewski is a writer who has made his name writing psychological thrillers but he has also experimented with other genres, including fantasy and thrillers. Tokarczuk is famous for her strange, introspective works of fiction, but her crime novel has recently been made into a film. Together they discuss genre fiction, its possibilities and limitations, and whether genre restrictions for writers are helpful or unhelpful.

Party at the Library

A night of cultural fusion between the UK and China. Come to the British Library for an evening of music and literature to celebrate the pre-launch of the British Library in China project. Fusing the best of contemporary and traditional Chinese and UK cultures through music, two diverse acts will light up the evening. British band Transition will lead you on a rock infused journey with music combining a rock foundation with Chinese rhythm, melody and lyrics, followed by London-based DJ Andy Leung, who combines elements of western and Chinese musical instruments into his work.

Documentary filmmaker Steven Cantor traces the story of world-famous artist Sergei Polunin from his childhood in the Ukraine to his meteoric rise with the Royal Ballet. Using archive footage and in-depth interviews, Cantor captures Sergei's life both on and off the stage as he follows his journey from training to be an Olympic gymnast at four to moving to gaining a reputation as ballet's number one bad boy.
