A PEDESTRIAN has died after being hit by an alleged drink-driver.

Police were called to Whalebone Lane North in Romford just after 1.45am on Saturday (March 18) to reports of a car crash with a pedestrian.

The pedestrian, a 47-year-old man, was pronounced dead at the scene less than an hour later.

The 27-year-old driver stopped at the scene and was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and driving under the influence of alcohol.

He has been taken into custody at an east London police station.

The pedestrian’s next of kin have been informed.

Police await formal identification, and a post-mortem examination will take place shortly.
