A MAN claiming to be disabled was fined for dumping a sofa, chest of drawers, shopping trolley, and fridge freezer in the street.

Nikolaj Zubenko, of Breamore Road, Seven Kings, was forced to cough up £450 at Barkingside Magistrates Court on Friday (March 17) after he admitted fly-tipping offences.

In May last year someone saw the 59-year-old dump chairs, a sofa, and a chest of drawers at the back of his house, through a side gate and into nearby Lynford Gardens.

They also caught him dumping a shopping trolley, some paint pots, and a small fridge freezer.

The witness contacted Redbridge Council who went to investigate further.

After tracing Zubenko they wrote to him inviting him to be interviewed but got no reply, so they went to his house and found him in the back garden.

He was cautioned after he admitted not wanting the items anymore and dumping them in the street.

Zubenko then failed to attend court in September and was finally arrested on February 26.

At last week’s hearing he told the court he was disabled, unable to work, earned no money, but was not on benefits.

Redbridge Council’s cabinet member for civic pride Cllr Sheila Bain said: “It needn’t have been this way.

“The Council provides a free bulky waste service so residents can have their furniture and white goods taken away at absolutely no cost.

“This person has ignored this service, and the countless other ways to dispose of his rubbish responsibly, and now he has to pay a heavy price.”
