Police have named the man they believe is responsible for the terror attack in Westminster yesterday which killed four people.

Khalid Masood, 52, has been indentified by detectives as the man thought to be behind the attack.

Masood was born in Kent, but was most recently living in the West Midlands. He was also known by a number of aliases.

Masood was not the subject of any current investigations and there was no prior intelligence about his intent to mount a terrorist attack.

However, police say he had a wide range of previous convictions for assaults, including GBH, possession of offensive weapons and public order offences.

His first conviction was in November 1983 for criminal damage and his last conviction was in December 2003 for possession of a knife.

He has not been convicted for any terrorism offences.

It is though Massod mowed down several pedestrians on Westminster Bridge with his car before crashing it into railings at Parliament.

He then ran through the gates of the Palace of Westminster and stabbed PC Keith Palmer, who was pronounced dead at the scene.

Masood was shot and killed by armed police following the attack.

At least 40 people were injured in the attack, including one woman who was pulled alive from the River Thames.

Anyone with any information about Masood is asked to call the Anti-Terrorist Hotline on: 0800 789 321.
