High street shops
I have noticed a lot of shops on High Street Leytonstone closing down and wonder if the rates are pricing them out.
However, I can’t say I am sorry since most of them are shops of low repute such as chicken joints, money changing parlours and strange hybrids of hairdressers mixed with cake shops.
I mean to say, who wants a macaron covered in hairy fluff? Not me, not now, not ever!
Can we make a plea for the council only to give licenses to genuinely useful establishments that might improve the area.
For example, what about a shop that stocks ballet shoes and tutus? I saw one in the West End and thought how handy it would be if you needed ballet shoes locally. Not that I do.
Also why can’t we have a fancy dress shop? I was invited to a party recently and all I could come up with was a 1920s flapper made out of a tablecloth with some old lamp fringing and some beads made of butter beans on a bit of garden twine.
I was happy with that costume but noticed my hosts turned their noses up and somebody asked me if I’d come as a standard lamp.
Come on, Waltham Forest Council.
Do your jobs and make this a community with amenities we can all be proud of.
