FOUR teenagers have been charged after a car crashed into a crowd of people outside a pub.

A 17-year-old from Ilford is one of four youths who have been charged after a car drove into four people gathered outside the Old Queen’s Head in Essex Road, Islington on Saturday (March 25).

Just before 11pm that night police were called to reports of an attempted robbery in Cross Street, Islington.

When officers arrived they started to search the scene, but minutes later were called to nearby Essex Road to deal with the car crash at the Old Queen’s Head.

Witnesses told a national newspaper they “thought it was a terrorist” after the Westminster attack earlier in the week, but police assured them it was not.

Two women and a man were taken to hospital after the crash, but their injuries are not believed to be life-threatening.

The people in the car fled the scene and police arrested a 17-year-old from Ilford, 17-year-old from Highbury, 19-year-old from Forest Hill, and a 17-year-old from Islington shortly after.

A 15-year-old was also arrested the next day. They cannot be named for legal reasons.

All the teenagers apart from the one from Islington are due to appear at Highbury Corner Magistrates Court today charged with aggravated vehicle taking (Tuesday, March 28).

The Islington teen has been bailed to a date in May.

The police are still investigating the circumstances of the robbery.
