Six people from Waltham Forest have been charged after a protest at Stansted Airport.
Four women and two men from the borough were arrested and later charged following a demonstration at the Essex airport last Tuesday (March 28).
Flights were temporarily suspended at Stansted Airport when protesters entered a secure airside area and erected a blockade near a non-commercial runway.
Campaign group Lesbians and Gays Support the Migrants (LGSMigrants) said some of its members, along with individuals from End Deportations and Plane Stupid, were behind the bid to halt a "mass deportation flight" destined for Nigeria.
Those charged from Waltham Forest are:
- Nicholas Sigsworth, 27, of Clementia Road, Leytonstone
- May McKeith, 31, of Clementia Road, Leytonstone
- Joseph McGahan, 33, of Clementia Road, Leytonstone
- Emma Hughes, 26, of Vicarage Road, Leytonstone
- Melanie Evans, 33, of Vicarage Road, Leytonstone
- Melanie Stickland, 34, Borwick Avenue, Walthamstow
In total, 17 people have been charged with obstructing or disrupting a person engaged in lawful activity and organising or taking part in a demonstration likely to interfere or obstruct Stansted Airport over the incident.
The group, aged between 23 and 46, are mainly from north and east London, with one of the women charged coming from Bristol.
They have all been bailed to appear at Chelmsford Magistrates Court next month.
