A WEST HAM fan has been jailed for breaching his football banning order after just nine days.

Tony Hackett, from Nottingham, was sentenced to 28 days in prison after he was spotted in a Middlesbrough hotel bar on January 21, the day West Ham beat Boro 3-1.

He was handed a five-year football banning order on January 13 for his part in a pub fight in Islington following an away game at Arsenal.

The banning order prevented him from travelling to towns and cities on the day the Hammers were playing there.

The 57-year-old was arrested and charged by Cleveland Police before appearing in court in London.

Hackett was involved in a fight between Arsenal and West Ham fans outside an Upper Street pub on August 9, 2015.

Missiles and objects including bottles, tables, chairs and street furniture were all thrown during the bust-up.

Police were called to the and the crowd dispersed, but no arrests were made at the time.

After examining CCTV footage of the fight officers managed to identify and arrest a number of suspects.

PC Andy Sheldon, from the Met's Football Unit, said: "This sentence demonstrates that football banning orders really do 'have teeth'.

“Hackett believed he was above the law but he was quickly caught out and now must serve a custodial sentence where he can reflect on his actions."
