A CAFÉ owner is offering free meals to homeless and struggling people to celebrate Easter.

Nicole Lawrence, 33, has been running M&N Sandwich Bar in Forest Road, Walthamstow, for almost three years.

Last December the Jamaican native opened her doors on Christmas Day to welcome less fortunate people in for a free Christmas meal.

Ms Lawrence, who is a Christian, said she doesn’t want anyone celebrating the next Christian holiday alone and so will spend Easter Saturday cooking for others.

She said: “I’m a Christian and I believe in God and I pray every day. I want people to know they’re not forgotten at Easter.

“It’s important at Easter for everybody to get together and celebrate. I just want to make it special for them.

“It is very difficult out there and there’s a lot of people who are struggling and who are homeless and on the streets.

“If I could give a free meal to those in need every day I would.

“When I gave out free meals at Christmas people really appreciated being able to come in and sit down and to have somebody to talk to. Otherwise they would have been by themselves.

“I have had so much support from my customers and the general public and if it wasn’t for them I wouldn’t be where I am today so I like doing these things.”

Anyone who is struggling to make ends meet will be served a meal at the café on Easter Saturday, April 15, between 11am and 4pm.

Guests will also be given a bag of toiletries and food when they leave.

Donations are welcome and can be dropped off at the café beforehand.
