A GANG of robbers drove a jeep through the front window of a jeweller’s store before threatening staff with a hammer and taking off with jewellery.

The incident happened at A&R Gold in Church Road in Leyton shortly after 4pm this afternoon, Tuesday April 11.

Masked men were seen fleeing the scene on foot with a backpack.

Paramedics treated a man at the scene for shock.

Fib Ghap who works at nearby Crown takeaway restaurant heard the crash.

He said: “My colleagues and I heard a loud crash and when we went outside to see what had happened we saw a jeep in the shop.

“Police and the fire brigade arrived soon after.”

The Met's Flying Squad are investigating.

No arrests have been made so far and enquiries continue.
